HOEGH OSAKA RAN AGROUND TO PREVENT IT FROM CAPSIZING

Salvage experts are attempting to stabilise a cargo ship grounded in the Solent before 50 mile an hour winds are expected to batter the stricken vessel on Wednesday. The Hoegh Osaka vehicle carrier, which has at least £35 million of high end cars on board, was deliberately grounded on Bramble Bank, between
Southampton and the Isle of Wight, on Saturday night in order to prevent it capsizing after it listed dangerously. Salvors boarded the 51,000 ton vessel on Monday morning and are now assessing “how to make sure it’s going to be as stable as possible” to survive the forecast winds, the Maritime & Coastguard Agency said. The ship was listing at an angle of 52 degrees as of Sunday night.
